ACT双篇文章的考察模式及应对方法

　　ACT考试由美国大学测验组织机构ACT主办。ACT考试均不是单纯的语言考试，而是对学生综合能力的测试。考试重视学生对基础课程的掌握并检查学生一般学术能力，难度贴近高中生。必考科学为四个部分：英语、数学、阅读、科学，全部为选择题，共215道。总分36分，考试时间共175分钟。

　　ACT考试不分I和II。它包括四个部分：数学、英语、阅读、科学推理。这里值得一提的是科学推理，这部分整合高中、初中物理，化学，生物，语文，英语口语，笔试等学科，综合在一张卷子上，以推理题目的形式出现。出题方式比较灵活，考验对高中知识的掌握和逻辑能力。「ACT Plus Writing」则为上述四个科目外再加上一个30分钟的作文测试。所有美国4年制学院及大学均接纳ACT的成绩。正因为ACT是一个以课程为本的考试，许多要求SAT Subject Tests成绩的大学，都会完全或部份豁免ACT考生有关的要求。

　　ACT阅读一直以来都在遵循用四篇不同类型的长文章来考察学生阅读能力的模式;但是，从2014年12月份的考试开始，这种传统的考察模式悄然发生了变化。在近几次的考试当中(2014年12月以及2015年4月和6月的ACT考试)，我们陆续见到了人文类和社科类文章中类似SAT考试的长篇双文章的考察。那接下来我们就仔细分析一下这种双篇文章的考察模式和并给出应对方法。

　　【一】双篇关系题

　　这类题目的特点是需要学生对于文章内容先有整体的把握，并找出两篇文章的相同点或是不同点，从而选出最优答案。题目例子如下：

　　1.Both Passage A and Passage B highlight Bradbury’s use of:(72C)

　　2.Which of the following method of support do both authors use to convey their ideas?(72G)

　　3.One of the most obvious differences between Hogan’s and Crawford’s point of view is that Hogan:(72G)

　　4.A similarity between the two passages is that they both:(73C)

　　5.Based on the passages, Gornick’s and Hemingway’s approaches to writing their memoirs are similar in that both writers:(73G)

　　【二】双篇概括题

　　这类题目的特点是需要学生把握两篇文章的主旨，并对其进行简练地概括，从而选出最优答案。题目例子如下：

　　Based on these two passages, which pair of phrases best compares Hogan’s relationship to Nature and Crawford’s relationship to Nature?(72G)

　　【三】双篇细节题

　　这类题目的特点是需要学生在两篇文章中分别找出与题目要求相关的细节，并识别出一篇文章中有但另一篇文章所缺失的细节，从而选出最优答案。题目例子如下：

　　An element of Passage A that is not present in Passage B is a reference to what aspect of the automobile culture?(73C)

　　【四】双篇推断题

　　这类题目的特点是需要学生根据文章给出的信息和内容去推断或猜想一个最可能发生的虚拟情境，从而选出最优答案。题目例子如下：

　　1.Based on Bradbury’s description in Passage A of his writing process, which of the following methods hypothetically depicts a way Bradbury might have begun to write the story in Passage B?(72C)

　　2.If publicity experts had been assigned to build enthusiasm for the cars mentioned in Passage A using the methods described in Passage B, the experts would most likely have first released photos to the press that showed:(73C)

　　3.Based on the passages, it can most reasonably be inferred that Gornick and Hemingway would agree that when it comes to a writer’s responsibility to be truthful in a memoir:(73G)

　　【五】第三方文段引用

　　这类题目的特点是出题者会引用一段来自其他文章的相关的句子或段落，并问及所引用的句子与两篇文章或是其中一篇文章内容的关系，学生只需对两篇文章大意有总体把握，就能选出最优答案。题目例子如下：

　　1.Elsewhere in the essay from which Passage A is adapted, Bradbury writes:

　　Was there a real boy named John Huff?

　　There was. And that was truly his name. But he didn’t go away from me, I went away from him.

　　How do these statements apply to both the information about Bradbury’s approach as a storyteller provided in Passage A and the story of John Huff provided in Passage B?(72C)

　　2.Another author wrote the following about the role of truth in memoir:

　　A memoir is a story, not a history, and real life doesn’t play out as a story.

　　Which passage most closely echoes the view presented in this question?(73G)

　　小结：

　　从上面对于双篇题目的分析可以看出，ACT考试对于学生阅读的考察，依旧万变不离其中，都是要求学生在理解文章内容和大意的基础上再去分析题目和选项，只要看懂了文章，无论是单篇阅读还是双篇阅读，学生都能排除干扰选项，找出最优答案。所以学生的练习重点仍旧是对做过的ACT阅读文章进行精读去进一步提升词汇量和句子理解能力，平时再多读一些各类别的原版书籍，来提升阅读速度和快速抓取文章主旨大意的能力。
