　　Perspective Two: Machines are good at low-skill, repetitive jobs, and at high-speed, extremely precise jobs. In both cases they work better than humans. This efficiency leads to a more prosperous and progressive world for everyone.

　　Perspective Three: Intelligent machines challenge our long-standing ideas about what humans are or can be. This is good because it pushes both humans and machines toward new, unimagined possibilities.

　　Essay Task

　　Write a unified, coherent essay in which you evaluate multiple perspectives on the increase presence of intelligent machines. In your essay, be sure to:

　　· analyze and evaluate the perspectives given

　　· state and develop your own perspective on the issue

　　· explain the relationship between your perspective and those given

　　Your perspective may be in full agreement with any of the others, in partial agreement, or wholly different. Whatever the case, support your ideas with logical reasoning and detailed, persuasive examples.

　　The best way for students to approach the revised ACT Writing Test is to first consider the strengths and weaknesses of the three given perspectives. For example, students should consider the insight provided by the three given perspectives, or what they might fail to consider. Students might also want to consider why the different perspectives might be persuasive to others, or why they might fail to persuade.

　　Students must then use their own knowledge, experience, and values to develop their own perspective on the issue. They must consider how to bolster the strengths, and minimize the weaknesses, of their perspective, all while providing the requisite supporting evidence.

　　Given the complexity of the revised ACT Writing Test, students are liable to forget to:

　　1. Make Judgments: The revised ACT Writing Test wants students to demonstrate their abilities to think critically and make judgments about the issues presented, all while showing an awareness of the complexity of the issues being discussed.

　　2. Develop Positions: The revised ACT Writing Test seeks to measure how well students are able to move from one point to the next in a coherent and logical manner. The number of different perspectives given, and the intermixing of opinion and fact compound the difficulty of this task.

　　3. Maintain Focus: A particularly challenging aspect of the revised ACT Writing Test is maintaining the focus of the essay. This is difficult because students are required to analyze three different perspectives while also developing and supporting their own perspective on a complex issue. The number of tasks required of students makes them liable to lose direction and go off topic, leaving them with an incomplete or directionless essay.

　　4. Organize Ideas: The revised ACT Writing Test is a challenge in organization. The different elements involved in the essay make proper organization even more crucial than on a standard essay.
